All about nappy rash
When it is NOT nappy rash
A fungal infection
e.g. thrush/candida
Is bright red and present in the folds of the skin as well. The fungus
can grow there too. Your baby will get very upset and cry when you
change their nappy. There may also be white scaling. Usual methods
for nappy rash won't be enough to improve the condition. It may
appear glazed or shiny and have pimple like spots (either white or
red) around the main rash area. Consult your health visitor, GP or
pharmacist for a suitable anti-fungal treatment.
Infantile eczema
This will happen predominantly in the folds and creases of
thighs and bums. It will exacerbate a baby's nappy rash. When
untreated, the baby's skin falls off in big flakes, and pus-filled
blisters may develop. It may also spread beyond the nappy
region. Consult your health visitor, GP or
pharmacist for a suitable anti-fungal treatment.
