To avoid leakage on your changing mat, put a fresh nappy underneath your baby's soiled nappy so you can pull the old one out once you have cleaned your baby's bottom and have him or her straight onto a new one.

To keep your baby occupied and to stop them wriggling about when you're changing their nappy I recommend giving your baby a toy to play with to distract them - even a plastic spoon would do.
